    How this calculator works

It follows the same order of charges printed on MEPCO bills for homes (tariff A-1A):

    1. Variable charges: units × the per-unit rate of each slab. A protected home using 97 units, for example, is billed 97 × Rs 10.54.
    2. F.C. surcharge: a financing cost surcharge of Rs 0.43 per unit, shown on bills as F.C. SUR.
    3. Fixed charges: since 2026, domestic bills carry a fixed charge per kilowatt of sanctioned load. Copy the figure from your last bill (for example Rs 200 for a 1 kW protected connection).
    4. Fuel charges adjustment (FCA/FPA): optional. It changes monthly, so enter the rate if you know it.
    5. Electricity duty: 1.5% of the variable charges.
    6. GST: 18% on the charges plus duty.

The result is an estimate. Your real bill may also include a quarterly tariff adjustment (QTA), arrears, installments or income tax, which depend on your account.

    2026 domestic rates used

These are the per-unit variable charges notified for 2026 (uniform across MEPCO and other DISCOs). Full tables, protected rules and fixed charges are on the MEPCO tariff page.

Category Units per month Rate (Rs/unit)
    Lifeline 1–50 3.95
    Lifeline 51–100 7.74
    Protected 1–100 10.54
    Protected 101–200 13.01
    Non-protected 1–100 22.44
    Non-protected 101–200 28.91
    Non-protected 201–300 33.10
    Non-protected 301–400 37.99
    Non-protected 401–500 40.22
    Non-protected 501–600 41.62
    Non-protected 601–700 42.76
    Non-protected Above 700 47.69

    How to find your units

Read the meter display today and subtract the “present reading” printed on your last bill. For example, if the bill says 75,450 and your meter now shows 75,610, you have used 160 units since the last reading. Switch the calculator to Meter readings and enter both numbers.

Protected or non-protected: which am I?

Protected rates apply to domestic consumers who used 200 units or less in each of the previous six months. Your bill’s Consumer Detail box shows the category. If you cross 200 units even once, later bills can be charged at non-protected rates, which is why the calculator warns you above 200 units.

    Example: 190 units at protected rates costs 100 × 10.54 + 90 × 13.01 = Rs 2,224.90 in variable charges. The same 190 units at non-protected rates is 100 × 22.44 + 90 × 28.91 = Rs 4,845.90, more than double before taxes.

Why the real bill can differ

    • Billing days: a cycle longer than a month adds units; some bills are pro-rated, as printed next to the reading date.
    • FCA and QTA: fuel and quarterly adjustments change every month or quarter.
    • Arrears or adjustments from earlier months.
    • Income tax: non-filers can be charged advance tax on high bills; see taxes on your MEPCO bill.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is a MEPCO bill calculated?

Units are multiplied by the slab rate for your category, then the F.C. surcharge, fixed charges and any fuel adjustment are added. Electricity duty of 1.5% and GST of 18% are applied on top.

What is the MEPCO per unit price in 2026?

For homes it ranges from Rs 3.95 (lifeline, first 50 units) to Rs 47.69 (non-protected, above 700 units), before taxes and adjustments. Protected homes pay Rs 10.54 for the first 100 units and Rs 13.01 for 101–200.

    Is this calculator exact?

No. It is an estimate using the notified rates. Monthly fuel adjustments, quarterly adjustments, arrears and income tax are specific to each bill.

Where do I find the fixed charges for my connection?

They are printed on your bill as FIXED CHRG under energy details. Copy that figure into the calculator.
